Congratulations to Mad Scien-tile-ology and Gurgamoth Lives for winning the Judges’ award and the People’s Choice award at this weekend’s Seattle Game Jam. More than 65 developers and designers took part in the 3-day event, which was sponsored by PlayFab and held at Surf Incubator. Alex Peterson, Brent Rawls, Leo Langinger, and Tristan MacDonald (seen above, with the judges) had never worked together before the Game Jam and were shocked when their game, Mad Scien-tile-ology, won the Judges award.
Thanks to everyone who came to our first virtual office hours last week! We’ll continue to do these every second Wednesday, and next week’s theme will be push notifications. Push notifications allow developers to send? immediate, one-to-many messages to their players’ home screens. ?This is an awesome power, but it requires making sure that your messages work across multiple platforms and delivery channels. PlayFab simplifies this process, but developers still need to understand how to configure their games.
The Seattle Game Jam is less than 2 weeks away and we have a ton of new information to share with you. (Haven’t signed up yet? Join 100+ other local developers and register here for free!) THEME: “It’s Alive!” PRIZES: All games created at the Seattle Game Jam are eligible to win two top awards, one voted for by the panel of judges, and one voted for by all Game Jam participants.

The PlayFab Live Game Ops Academy is the place to learn the key concepts for success with your live game operations. We know that operating a live game is hard, and there’s a huge gap in performance between the top-grossing game developers and everyone else. The Live Game Ops Academy is designed to help teach the skills that you need to close this gap. Attend all three introductory sessions and receive the PlayFab Live Game Ops 101 Certificate by email.
When I first started working with PlayFab, it was as a customer — just your average game developer looking to integrate with this cool new toolset. Now that I’m working here as head of Developer Tools, it’s my goal to keep developer focus front of mind, and roll out the kind of SDKs and developer tools that exceed developer expectations. We’ve got lots of cool new stuff coming up, but I wanted to use my first blog post to highlight two in particular: Virtual office hours and SDK release notes.
Seattle-area developers and designers! PlayFab is sponsoring the Seattle Game Jam and we’d love for you to join us. There will be fun! There will be prizes! Most importantly, there will be food! What’s a game jam? It’s a bunch of fellow designers and developers feverishly working together to plan and build games together in a short period of time — in this case, over the weekend of Oct. 9 – Oct. 11.
